Well-well…oops. (8+)
Once upon a time there lived a fox, young, but already very smart. Her mother called her Tak-tak*, because whenever something happened, she always started saying: “Tak-tak...”
The time came when Tak-tak became quite an adult and it was the time for her to get married and have children. That’s just the way it is!
Right after celebrating the New Year, Tak-tak began looking for a suitable lair. One lair was small, the other was already occupied by another animal. But Tak-tak still found what suited her. The lair was large and spacious. She was just to tidy it up. Tak-tak wasn’t scared.
She just exclaimed, ‘Tak-tak!’ and got down to business. She swept all the rubbish out of the lair, cleaned out the corners, and dragged in some fresh moss. And while Tak-tak was busy, a male fox was running past.
He saw Tak-tak and decided to get to know her, ‘Hello, little fox-sister! What are you doing?’
- Well, I'm making a lair for my kids, - answered Tak-tak.
- Great! And I'm just running around the forest and looking for a wife like that. I want my wife to be hardworking, smart, beautiful; I want her to bear me lots of kids, to be a good mother to them and, of course, I want her to love me...
He would have continued listing his "I want, I want, I want...", but Tak-tak interrupted him by saying, ‘Tak-tak! You want everything and a lot. Congratulations! I can give you everything from what you listed. But, there is a catch... You didn't say what YOU want and can give me and what you can and are ready to do for our kids.’
The fox scratched behind his ear, thought a bit, but could not say anything in response.
‘Tak-tak,’ Tak-tak said again. ‘I'm going to go through the forest now, far, far away. And you can go there too and don't turn anywhere!’ And she thought to herself, "I don't need a husband like that." And she continued with her work.
Another male fox ran past. He took a closer look at Tak-tak, looked into her house and said so tenderly and affectionately, ‘What a nice house you have, and what a beauty you are! What beautiful eyes you have, what desirable lips you have... Look at how wonderful the weather is today. Let me invite you for a walk. You'll have enough time to tidy up your house. The winter is still long, and I still want to run and jump.
‘Tak-tak’ Tak-tak started talking to him, ‘you speak sweetly.’ she continued. ‘I know without your remark that my house is good, I also know that it is beautiful. But I see that you do not like to work. You only want to walk and have fun. Beautiful words alone are not enough for me to choose you as a husband.’
The fox lowered his head and ran on to look for an easier wife. Meanwhile, Tak-tak finished her work, sat down near her lair and suddenly became sad. You can't leave the house unattended. While you're running, someone else might take it. So, Tak-tak was sitting near the house grieving.
‘Where can I find a husband, the kind I want?’ Tears appeared in Tak-tak's eyes.
At that time a third fox was running past. He saw a tear on Tak-tak's face and exclaimed:
‘What are you sad about, little fox sister? Maybe you're hungry? Maybe your burrow is insecure and you're worried that it won't suit your kids? Now I'll catch some tasty mice and feed you, and then I'll take care of your burrow. Just don't cry! Everything will be fine with you. I'll help you,’ He didn't stop talking for a second, not giving Tak-tak a chance to even object.
The fox quickly ran away, but soon returned, holding several mice in his teeth. Tak-tak enjoyed them.
She suddenly thought, ‘But I completely forgot about food, being busy cleaning the house I really got hungry. What would I have done if this fox had not appeared?’
And the fox in the meantime looked into the lair, and then said to Tak-tak, ‘What a clever girl you are! You’ve prepared this place for your children so well that I have almost nothing to help you with. So, you don’t need my assistance anymore.’
Tak-tak suddenly panicked that the fox would run away, and she would not have time to say anything to him except “thank you”. It seemed to her that a speck of dust got into her eye, and she exclaimed, ‘Ai!*’. In fact it only seemed to her, because in reality there was no speck of dust. However, the fox did not know about it. He approached Tak-tak and licked her eye to remove the speck. At that very moment they realized that they could no longer live without each other.
Tak-tak gently touched the Fox's ear with her muzzle and whispered, ‘You are very good. I would like to have a husband like you. You are kind and caring.’
The fox did not know that Tak-tak's name was Tak-tak and suggested to her, ‘May I call you "my beloved Ai?"
Tak-tak lowered her head in agreement and replied, ‘And I call you ‘beloved’.
So, they began to live together. The fox took care of his beloved Ai. He continued to improve the hole, caught mice for Ai. In between their chores, they frolicked: rolled in the snow, played tag, and even danced standing on their hind legs. Sitting in the hole, they playfully bit each other's ears and jostled each other merrily.
Two months later, they had fox cubs were born - blind, deaf and toothless puppies. In order to feed their offspring, Tak-tak-Ai (as her beloved now called her) and the fox were forced to hunt day and night. Of course, the fox tried harder.
After two weeks, the fox cubs' eyes were already open, they crawled around the hole, squeaked and asked for their mother's milk. In appearance, the fox cubs resembled wolf cubs: they were dark in color, only the tip of their tail was white.
When the fox cubs grew a little, Tak-tak-Ai and the Fox took turns taking the fox cubs hunting. The fox cubs even played with each other while hunting, pestering their mother or father, interfering with the hunt, but the parents forgave them everything. When the fox cubs ran away, the parents found their babies by the white tail that stood up straight.
By autumn, the fox cubs had grown up and could live independently. Tak-tak-Ai and her beloved were left alone. They lived together for many, many years and gave birth to many puppies.
This is the story of Tak-tak-Ai. Daddies and mommies, love and take care of each other, and everyone in your families will be happy.
