The way the stars were sparked (5+)

Back in the day, a long, long time ago, there was not a single star in the sky. There was just the Sun; it was bright during the day, but at night... you could hardly see your own hand.

There were gods in the heavens. During the day they saw everything that was happening on earth, but at night... The gods watched the animals take advantage of the darkness to attack each other, snatch food from each other, destroy dens and dwellings. In the morning, people had to deal with the mess of the night. Many people missed their kith and kin by morning. Admittedly, some animals adapted to see in the dark. Such animals and birds still live on earth; those animals are cats, hedgehogs, owls and bats. They hunt at night and mostly sleep during the day.

Especially humans had a hard time in those days. At night they were hiding in caves to protect themselves from predators. To scare the animals away from the caves, people came up with a very effective and smart method - they inserted special sticks up their noses. The result was a very incessant snoring.

Imagine, for example, a tiger making its way into a cave and there was: ‘Hr-hr, hr-hr’. The tiger would think: ‘Where have I got to? This must be the lair of an even scarier beast than I am.’ And out of fear the tiger would flee out of the cave, to which the tiger will hardly dare to return.

Do you think people just snore for no reason? No way, they don't. It's a quality they have acquired from their prehistoric ancestors. How many lives have been saved by this kind of snoring! So, don't take offence at those who snore. Maybe the snoring saved your great...great...grandfather or great...great... grandmother.

Much water has flown under the bridges since a man learnt how to get fire. Fire was used for light, warmth and safety. it's worth noting that predators fear the fire.

The gods in Heaven saw how people kept the fire and how it helped them and were preoccupied, ‘We also need to help people! Only how can we do it?’

One of the Gods came up with an idea:

There lives in Heaven a daughter of the God of Light, the beautiful Zvezdaria. The paths in her garden are lined with millions of bright stars, so it is always bright in her garden, both day and night. We should invite Zvezdaria to our Council and entrust her to light up the night sky of the Earth.

Zvezdaria thought about the problem for a day and night; on the second day she came up with an idea. She collected all the stars from the paths of her garden and called her friend, the Moon, who lived in her garden, to help her.

Zvezdaria sat atop of the moon and flew across the sky to scatter the stars. As they scattered in different directions, they flashed even brighter. She had been scattering the stars for many nights. The gods were very pleased with her! They appointed Zvezdaria, the daughter of the God of Light, to be the Goddess of Stars. The stars have been twinkling in the sky ever since.

Look closely. Each star has its own colour: there are blue stars, which are the youngest and therefore very hot; also, there are white and yellow stars, orange and red stars, which are cold. And those stars that shimmer with different colours are the most cheerful. Stars are like people: they come into being, live and eventually die. When a star dies, it starts falling from the sky and then you have to make a wish. Rest assured that your wish will certainly come true.

The Moon has existed forever in the sky. Every night it admires the stars and has even learnt to talk to them in their star language. The Moon finds it interesting to live in the sky, because you can admire the stars forever.

I'll let you in on a little secret: the Moon has been trying to count all the stars in the sky for ten million years. But she still hasn't managed to do it. Only the Goddess of Stars herself - Zvezdaria - knows how many stars there are in the sky, but it doesn't matter at all.

And the important thing is that in the light of the stars and the Moon, little children and animals can see both mums and dads nearby, and they are no longer scared of anything at night. Mum and dad will always be able to protect their babies from any danger. Rest assured and don’t be afraid of anything.
